The Arkansas State Mammal: The White-tailed Deer is an Arkansas favorite. It can be seen running gracefully through forests and meadows throughout the state.

The Arkansas State Bird: The Arkansas State bird is the Mockingbird. It copies the songs of other birds. Mockingbirds can also copy other sounds like a dog barking.

Arkansas was named after the Quapaw tribe of Native Americans. Perhaps influenced by the French pronunciation of names, the Algonquin-speaking Native Americans from the Ohio Valley called the Quapaw tribe "Arkansaw," meaning "south wind."

The diamond is a symbol of Arkansas being the only diamond producing state in the union. The 25 stars in the blue border represent Arkansas' place as the 25th state to enter the union. The stars below the word Arkansas represent a historical allegiance to Spain, France, and th U.S. The single star above the state name stands for the confederacy.
