The Kentucky State Bird: The Kentucky State bird is the cardinal.. These birds are known for their bright red feathers and cheerful song. The male's feathers are bright red, but the female's feathers are a yellowish-brown.

Kentucky is named from the Iroquois word, "Ken-tah-ten" which means "land of tomorrow." Kentucky was also known as "the happy hunting ground."
