Fun Facts about WYOMING
The Wyoming State Fossil is the Knightia. This fossils is a type of prehistoric fish. It lived 50 million years ago in what is now southwestern Wyoming. Scientists are not sure what caused its extinction. All they know is that the fish died suddenly and in large groups.
The Wyoming State Bird: The Wyoming State bird is the western meadowlark.. It is yellow breasted with a black "V" on its chest. It has brown feathers with white outer tail feathers. The bird has a loud flute-like whistle. The western meadowlark lives in pastures, meadows, and grain fields.
Wyoming got its name from the Delaware Native American phrase "meche-weami-ing," meaning "land of mountains and valleys alternating."
